Welcome to the Tasmanian Audit Office.

Excellence by Example

The staff of the Tasmanian Audit Office and myself are acutely aware that in providing auditing services to the Parliament and the public sector agencies we will be judged by our own standards.

The Audit Office assists the Auditor-General to examine and report to Parliament on the operations of Government activities and provides assurance on the financial integrity of the system of government in Tasmania.

The Office's motto "Accountability on Your Behalf" underlines the vital role of the Auditor-General and the Audit Office plays in the life of every Tasmanian. While ensuring accountability of the Executive Government is reported to Parliament, we are reporting to you the public. It stands to reason therefore, that the operation of the Audit Office should represent a model of best practice. Our vision is clear, "Excellence in Audit Services", and our commitment to excellence is relentless, and we continually raise the standards we set for ourselves.

Since the appointment of the first Colonial Auditor in 1826, this Office has provided impartial, independent scrutiny of government practices. Our purpose, values and codes of conduct and ethical behaviour are the cornerstones of our service delivery. Our service charter and corporate plan clearly communicate the services provided and how our performance is measured.

An organisation like the Audit Office is dependent upon its structure, staff and process to deliver quality services. The Office employs people with professional qualifications and skills who have access to sophisticated technology using contemporary practices to deliver value and service to our clients.

This web site has been developed in line with our strategy to provide information to our clients, be they citizens, Parliamentarians or employees of the organisations we audit. We are committed to continuous improvement and welcome feedback. So, if you have any comments on our organisation, reports or the way we do business please contact us by telephone, fax, e-mail or in person. You can also use our online feedback form.
