Farewell – Rod Whitehead

About this report or communique

Good morning,

Today marks the end of my 8-year term as Tasmania’s Auditor-General. It has been a privilege to serve the Parliament and people of Tasmania as Auditor-General and to lead the Tasmanian Audit Office.

Throughout my term, the Tasmanian Audit Office has endeavoured to identify and recommend opportunities for performance improvement for public sector entities and better outcomes for the Tasmanian Community. I wish to thank you and your staff for the cooperative and supportive manner in which you have worked with me and the staff of the Tasmanian Audit Office, and for the regular feedback provided during our meetings, client service assessment interviews, and during the completion of our work. Immense value is placed on this direct feedback, along with the independent surveys on the quality and effectiveness of our financial and performance audit work.

Deputy Auditor-General, Jonathan Wassell, will act as Auditor-General throughout April 2024, with the incoming Auditor-General, Martin Thompson, commencing on 1 May 2024.

I wish you the very best for the future.

Yours sincerely,
Rod Whitehead
