Management of landfills lasts decades from the moment waste first enters the ground. Despite advancements in diversion, half of the annual waste produced in Tasmania ends up in landfills.

The audit report has recommendations to strengthen management and regulatory practices and, more broadly, address strategic planning for the future of landfills.
