Report of the Auditor-General No. 6 of 2021-22: Accessing services for the safety and wellbeing of children and young people – the Strong Families Safe Kids Advice and Referral Line

The objective of the audit was to express an opinion on whether, as the primary point of access, the Strong Families, Safe Kids Advice and Referral Line (ARL) has been implemented effectively to provide expected levels of service to support the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

The Department of Communities Tasmania was the primary Government agency subject to audit but in order to form a more complete picture of the ARL’s operations and impact, evidence was also obtained from providers of early intervention and family support services and the following Government agencies (stakeholder agencies) with a vested interest in child safety:

  • Department of Education
  • Department of Health
  • Department of Justice
  • Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management, and specifically, Tasmania Police.
